You can’t beat the price at Shapiro Pool (near Chico Junior High at Oleander and Memorial Way) and Pleasant Valley Pool (which is not at PV High but rather Bidwell Junior at 2320 North Ave.) It’s just $1 for recreational swim time, or pay $75 for a summer pass for your entire family. And tomorrow, June 12, is free swim day from 1 to 3:45 p.m. Full details are on the Chico Area Recreation District Web site, but essentially: recreational swim 1-3:45 p.m. Monday-Friday and Saturday 1-5 p.m.; family swim Monday-Thursday 4-9 p.m. Lap swim times are available as well. A bit of a caveat: We found out last summer that sometimes they close early if there aren’t enough swimmers.

The movies start at 3:30 p.m., making for a great after-school activity. For the younger set, don’t miss preschool storytime for ages 3 to 5 each Tuesday from 10:30 to 11. For a full list of library activities, visit the library’s kids page or the monthly calendar.

CARD’s Family Movies in the Park
Thursday, July 17th, 2008What a cool idea. Today’s kids may never get to go to a drive-in movie, but Chico kids are lucky enough to be able to attend Family Movies in the Park (Sycamore Field) sponsored by the Chico Area Recreation District. The movies are free and the next one is Saturday, July 19 starting 15 minutes after sunset. This week’s showing is Bee Movie, the Jerry Seinfeld flick. The other movie nights are listed here on the CARD Web site.
