Fourth of July in Chico

It’s almost Independence Day, and Chico does it up right. (Well, I wish we could also set off fireworks at home, but understandably it’s a fire hazard so they’re forbidden countywide.)

Tonight, July 3, is a fireworks show at the Outlaws game. Seats are being sold on the field for the first time ever, and the show can also be viewed from other nearby locations such as the Chico High football field.

CARD is sponsoring the traditional festivities in Bidwell Park, and I’m pasting in the info here:

Patrick Ranch Threshing Bee 2009

We had a lot of fun at the Patrick Ranch Threshing Bee last year. Tons of great kids’ activities. Adult admission is $5. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get a full post up before the event, so here’s a handy link to the Threshing Bee Web site!

Whew! There’s so much fun stuff going on in Chico this weekend I can’t keep up! Please check out the ChicoKids.net calendar over to the right to see some of the great things going on.

Today we’re heading to Katherine’s Cottage for the WebKinz Extravaganza. Tomorrow, May 2, is Free Comic Book Day as well as the Pioneer Days Parade (11 a.m.!) , the Chico Artisans Faire and the Endangered Species Faire. We’ll see you there, rain or shine!

Chico Nursery School Rummage Sale Is Saturday, April 25

If this huge stack of boxes and bags in my entryway is any indication, it’s time for the awesome, annual Chico Nursery School rummage sale!

Great stuff from dozens of families, yours to choose from this Saturday, April 25, from 8 a.m. to noon at Chico Nursery School: 1190 E. 1st Ave. There will be donuts and other treats for sale, too.

It’s all a fund-raiser for CNS, a nonprofit parent coop for preschoolers ages 2 years and 9 months to 5 years old. The school was founded in 1968.

Spring Jamboree, aka Easter Egg Hunt, at Caper Acres

Children’s Christmas Party at Elk’s Lodge Dec. 21

Advance signups are required for the Children’s Christmas Party to be held Dec. 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Chico Elk’s Lodge (Manzanita Place) at 1705 Manzanita Ave. Kids 12 and under can enjoy crafts, snacks and Santa. To reserve a spot, call 343-1431 by Dec. 16.

Family Video Game Day at Toys R Us

Alec and I will be heading down to Toys R Us this Saturday, Oct. 25, for Family Video Game Day, which runs from noon to 4 p.m. (I have my eye on a Nintendo DS Lite). People who show up for the event get a $10 off coupon good on one of six particular DS or Wii games. The cool part is, you get to “test drive” a bunch of different game consoles.

Circus Comes to Town

Circus Gatti will hold two shows in Chico on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 4:15 and 7:30 p.m. at the Silver Dollar Fair Grounds. There are free kids’ tickets at supermarkets around town, but they’re only good with a paid adult admission, which runs $22. (Youths 13 to 17 and senior citizens are $18). There is a $3 discount coupon online at the circus Web site, and the kids’ ticket could also be used for $2 off adult admission. For about 20 years, Circus Gatti has been the fundraiser of choice for the Chico Police Officers Association. The event generates thousands of dollars donated to a variety of community organizations. If you are concerned about animal treatment and other issues related to circuses, there are plenty of resources online where you can learn more.
