Kid-friendly Shops in Chico

Bird in Hand
We’ve never been told to stop playing with the toys at Bird in Hand. The shop is also home to a toy museum and the National Yo-Yo Museum. Bird in Hand and owner “Uncle Bob” Malowney host the annual Chico Yo-Yo Contest in early June as well as the National Yo-Yo Contest Oct. 4. Free Yo-Yo club with lessons Saturdays noon-2pm in Diamond Alley. Store also supports, in conjunction with the Chico Area Recreation District, Kite Day at 20th Street Community Park in March.

 

Home Depot
Kid build-it drop-in workshops on the first Saturday of each month from 9am to noon. Ages 5-12 recommended, but preschoolers often attend.

 

Lowe’s
Kids’ Build and Grow clinics on Saturday mornings. Ages 6 and up, but suitable for preschoolers with help. Cute apron and eye protection provided, and you get to keep an apron and add project patches to it.

Powell’s Sweet Shoppe

Be like a kid in a candy store at Powell’s, where Willy Wonka plays nonstop.

Locally owned doll, toy and collectibles shop Katherine’s Cottage recently expanded its toy section to include Playmobil and other products. Webkinz, too.
